Will paper printing still exist in the near future? With INTERTYPES, we visit 3D printing technology in the historical and cultural lineage of printing. Intertypes: between types, between periods, there is always a continuous path. A galaxy of printed historical artefacts, residues of past writings and organisations, a kind of historical encoding that interweaves cultures and technologies.
Tanya St-Pierre & Philippe-Aubert Gauthier
Tanya St-Pierre holds a degree in visual arts from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (Canada). Philippe-Aubert Gauthier is a self-taught sound artist, holds a PhD in acoustics (Université de Sherbrooke), and is a professor at the École des arts visuels et médiatiques at UQAM. They live and work in Montreal. While each maintains an individual practice, they also combine their areas of expertise to create visual and sound installations. Their collaboration began in 2000, and they started performing under the name Noïzefer CWU in 2004. Their work has been supported by the CALQ (Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec) and the CAC (Canada Council for the Arts), and has been presented in Canada, the United States, Morocco, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. With a recurring focus on sound, their practice engages with the history of technological developments and media archaeology. In addition to sound, their collaborative work explores photography, computer-generated imagery, printmaking techniques, and video.
