ECORESPONSABILITY

ECORESPONSBILITY

CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF HOLISTIC ACTIONS AND TO THE PROMOTION OF ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY VALUES IS A KEY ELEMENT FOR THE ELEKTRA TEAM.

As a cultural institution focused on technologies and digital arts, and raising questions on their consequences, we think that it is of crucial importance to act as a leader with regard to environmental issues in all spheres of our organization.

ELEKTRA is proud to combine forces with the City of Montreal to implement the Sustainable Montréal 2016-2020 plan. Therefore, we are committed to bring change to the Montreal community :

  • Encourage the use of active transportation and public transit for employee travel;

  • Reduce, optimize and electrify the vehicle fleet;

  • Reduce and recover residual materials;

  • Support the development of local culture;
  • Make buildings universally accessible;

  • Fight waste;

  • Support access to healthful food and urban agriculture;

  • Integrate the principles of the circular economy into the organization’s business practices;

  • Adopt a socially responsible purchasing policy and/or criteria;

  • Support the development of a social and solidarity economy.

But concretely, what does it all mean?

Here are different actions that we have implemented in our organization and event activities :

Transport

  • Promoting cycling as a mode of transport, special partnership with BIXI for our festival-goers;

  • Promoting carpooling, parternship with AmigoExpress.

Consumption and waste

  • Employment of eco-friendly caterers (compostable utensils and cutlery, recyclable or reusable, vegetarian food only);

  • Removal of single-use water bottles.

Awareness and democratization of art

  • Cultural mediation activity, ELEKTRA Invites;

  • Educational workshop given to two school classes, #DATA Montréal;

  • Student fare;

  • Accessibility for persons with reduces mobility to all our locations;

  • Promotion of eco-responsible values to our cultural partners.

Tips for our festival-goers

Environmental and social issues are societal challenges, and it comes down to all of us to make difference collectively. Here are a few ways to integrate green and viable habits in our lives :

  • Choose a reusable bottle over plastic bottles;

  • Choose for a reusable coffee cup over disposable containers;

  • Transit with low GHG (greenhouse gas) options such as the metro, TéoTaxi, BIXI or your own bike;

  • Take the extra seconds to sort your trash and cigarette butts in the appropriate bins.

Thank you for contributing in making Montreal a sustainable, accessible and green cultural metropolis!
