Matthew Biederman

Matthew Biederman has been working across media and environments, architectures and systems, communities and continents since 1990. He creates works in which light, space and sound reflect on the subtleties of perception. Since 2008, he has been a co-founder of the Arctic Perspective Initiative, alongside Marko Peljhan, which operates across the circumpolar region.

Biederman has received the Bay Area Artist Award in Video from New Langton Arts, and first prize in the Visual Arts category at Break21 in Slovenia. He has been an artist-in-residence at various organisations and institutions, including the Centre for Experimental Television on numerous occasions, the CREATE laboratory at CMU, Wave Farm and several others.

His work has been exhibited at: the Lyon Biennale, the Istanbul Design Biennale, the Tokyo Museum of Photography, ELEKTRA, MUTEK, Ars Electronica, the Digital Arts Biennale (CA), Artissima (IT), the SCAPE Biennale (NZ) and the Moscow Biennale (RU), amongst others.
