Through situations that are both funny and absurd, three artists deconstruct the idea of video games as escapist spaces free from our everyday worries. Their works evoke a sense of horror, personal or social anxiety.

Information

The three works in this exhibition bring together three artists working with games in ways that feel aesthetically related and that share a richly imaginative, challenging approach to the medium and to what play can mean. These artists set out to disrupt the notion that games are just about having fun and that they are set in a world removed from our everyday world(s) and worries. Instead, these works foreground a sense of personal and social anxiety that feels immediate and contemporary. The experience of playing all three games might be described as frustrating. But the works also evoke feelings of desire, failing, trying again - in situations that are also rather funny and absurd.
