Often described as a collagiste, Nicholas Baier uses digital technologies to compose photographic images, bas-reliefs, ronde-bosses, paintings, and video works that interrogate our relationships with these technologies. A recipient of a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal, his works are held in various public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Swartz Art Collection at Harvard Business School.

Nicolas Baier holds a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. His work has been included in group exhibitions at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachussetts, MAC VAL in Paris, and Neuer Berliner Kunstverein in Berlin.

Even in the images taken from the video, I see this cohabitation, in this parallel montage between the forest and the workshop, as an equivalency, as two a priori disparate forms displaying the same weighing pans, each on one of the two pans of the same scale.
