BIO - MONOCOLOR
MONOCOLOR alias Marian Essl is a Vienna based audiovisual artist. He explores the interrelations between sound and image in both performance-based and installation-based works. His fully generative, algorithmically created imagery oscillates between fluid, organic textures and rigid structures. He focuses on the relation between sound, image, light and space, aiming to create highly immersive audiovisual universes. Studies of media technology and experimental media, currently studying Digital Arts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
LATENT SPACE
In Latent Space, fine lines weave virtual spaces around the viewers. The architecture that appears is highly fragile — the space grows, shrinks, collapses. The acoustic dimension is also deeply spatial — slowly morphing soundscapes float around the dome, enveloping the observers in sound and image.
The omnipresence of the virtual realm is transposed into the physical space of the dome to unmask the oft-cited boundlessness of digital space. The work tests and investigates the spatial effects of the dome, and serves as a metaphor for the virtual net that always surrounds us.
