Mélanie Courtinat

Paris, France

Mélanie Courtinat’s practice includes immersive digital installations and interactive experiences, often developed in collaboration with creators from cinema, theatre, and dance. She is part of Distraction, a Paris-based collective of artists blending practice, research, and experimental play. Her work challenges the logic of traditional gameplay, creating sensitive meta-games where rules are imposed and conventions deconstructed to reveal new lessons. She draws on familiar core mechanics such as tutorials and boss fights and rewires the assumptions embedded within them. Courtinat disrupts the player’s agency, turning spectators into players and critiquing the performativity of viewing.
