Dominic Thibault

Dominic Thibault is an electronic musician, a composer, an improviser, a coder, a teacher, member of the duo Tout Croche, co-director of the label The Silent Howl. His music is at the crossroads of concrete music, noise, minimal techno and the soundscape.

Dominic Thibault is assistant professor in the Faculty of Music at the Université de Montréal. He teaches composition, computer music and studio techniques in the undergraduate studies. He also supervises graduate students in the field of sound design and composition. He is co-director of the Laboratoire Formes·Ondes and an active member of the CIRMMT and the OICRM.

Dominic Thibault’s research focuses on systems in the field of digital music. More specifically, he is interest in the human-machine interactions and their impact on musical creation. His research-creation takes the form of electroacoustic compositions, audiovisual performances, musical softwares, noise improvisations. His teaching mainly concerns computer music and creativity in the studio. His music has been published by the record houses The Silent Howl, Entr’acte, Kohlenstoff and Mikro Climat. His research is funded by the following organizations: Interdisciplinary Observatory for Creation and Research in Music (OICRM), the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) and the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec.
