AV Evening #1

Glowing Spinning Tops, Emotional Release, and Transformed Plastic
Overview

Information
Soft Revolvers, Myriam Bleau
Soft Revolvers is an audiovisual performance built around four transparent acrylic spinning tops created by the artist. Each one acts as an "instrument" in an electronic musical composition, while motion data captured by integrated sensors feeds into sound algorithms.
With their rotating circular bodies and their function as instruments, these interfaces strongly evoke turntables and DJ culture, hip-hop, and dance music. Integrated LEDs illuminate the spinning tops in precise counterpoint to the music, tracing hypnotic halos of light.
ENTANGLEMENT, Douglas McCausland
ENTANGLEMENT is an intermedia work blending live electronics, high-order ambisonic sound, video projections, and lighting design. The result of over a decade of research and creative practice in electronic music, this piece brings together ten personal, visceral, and dynamic reflections organized in a loose juxtaposition.
Aesthetically, ENTANGLEMENT immerses us in the contrast of extremes: tension and release, density and stillness, and at times, unease and catharsis. These ten sections, linked by a network of material, formal, and thematic interconnections, form a coherent whole.
WARNING: This performance includes long sequences of strobe lights, flashing videos, and extended periods of darkness. Individuals with photosensitivity or photosensitive epilepsy are strongly advised not to attend.
PLASTICPHONIA, Crystn Hunt Akron
What if plastic had a sound—deep, light, haunting, intriguing... or completely alien? Sound artist Crystn Hunt Akron embarked on the Planet Plastic adventure alongside Greenpeace, environmentalists, and the Clean Up the Beaches initiative. Together, they combed beaches to collect plastic waste washed up by the sea.
With PLASTICPHONIA, she transforms these objects—brushes, bags, buckets, bottles, pipes, cups—into sounds sampled from field recordings. From these captures, she composes a unique sonic interpretation, presented as a live concert, an immersive installation, and a series of workshops.
"From waste to music": a sustainable reappropriation and a reflection on the legacy of our throwaway society. Since its inception, Plasticphonia has been presented in galleries, museums, festivals, and clubs across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, including the Sound Scene Festival (Washington DC), the ADAF Festival (Athens), and the Ars Electronica Festival (Austria).
