b. 9.07.1974, Brașov, Romania
lives and works in Bucharest, Romania
Within the sonic construct of Syntax, Laurian Bardoș draws strong influence from his studies in medical psychology. From this perspective, the evolution of his music has been greatly influenced by the study of perception and the Gestalt theory, which connects the spatial (geometric) form with the temporal form (sound).
Conceptually, further inspiration is drawn from studying the synesthetic aspects of perception, including: a preoccupation with finding a multidimensional artistic language, trans-visual non-alphabetic languages and methods of decoding-transcoding beyond the limitations of natural language.
It was in 2007 when Bardoș first started working with sounds in a musical context and particularly those generated by various computer signal errors, while trying to articulate them within compositions based on sculptural algorithms. This period of experimentation marked the transition towards his current musical expression via electronic music.
MICROARK
North American Premier
microark is a performative audio-visual installation which explores the relationship between human perception and micro-acoustic phenomenon, such as an atom or a sonorous pixel. To describe the micro-acoustic phenomena, all sounds have a length shorter than a musical note, which include sounds shorter than a tenth of a second and longer than 10 milliseconds and with a range of frequencies between 20hz to 20khz up until 20hz infrasonic frequencies.
Such micro-acoustic phenomena have been employed as the core structure for a succession of audio-visual constructions which stem from the idea that the waveform (oscillation) visually translates the abstract purity of sound.
The project was released in 2017 by the Canadian label Yatra Arts as part of the syntax | microark| minim | 50 HZ split CD, which coincided with a special live event at The National Museum of Contemporary Art / Muzeul Național de Artă Contemporană (MNAC) Bucharest.
