Originally from France, Juliette Lusven is an interdisciplinary artist-researcher in visual and media arts who lives and works in Montreal. Her exploratory and process-based approach is inspired by geosciences and by perceptual and technological visualization processes concerning terrestrial and oceanic space.
At the intersection of various forms of installation, montage, and projection, she examines our relationship with the world in connection to technology, materiality, flows (both natural and artificial), and scales, often through the lens of perception. She is interested in the interconnections that occur between natural and technological phenomena, exploring their visual and experiential resonance, as well as their informational, environmental, and imaginary dimensions. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in art studies and practices at UQÀM, where she is developing the research-creation project Exploration.135, a new installation version of which is being presented at the ELEKTRA gallery. Since 2020, she has been undertaking an experimental residency at the GEOTOP laboratory in earth and atmospheric sciences and underwater micropaleontology. Her work is supported by HEXAGRAM, the research-creation network in arts, cultures, and technologies, and was recently presented at the Agora Hydro-Québec during Montreal’s Nuit des idées (2020) and at the online MUTEK festival (2021).
