Constellations

At the intersection of art and science, the works of Cristo Riffo poetically examine the contradictions of history through robotics, electronics, chemistry, and microbiology.
Overview

Information
The exhibition Constellations explores the microcosm and its interactions with the macrocosm as biological and social constructs through two works.
The first work, Sistema Cinco Non-Human Determinations addresses the relationships between microorganisms by superimposing nature’s molecular technologies with those created by humans, using a microscope, AI, and drone imagery to reimagine cybernetic management. The other work, The Self Writing Manifesto, is an exercise in microscopic observation aimed at extending the temporalities of mycelium and its architectures, thereby broadening our perception of non-human growth in scale and time.
The artist’s work conveys and explores the complexity and contradictions of history, politics, and technology. By using robotics, electronics, chemistry, and microbiology, he creates poetic translations of reality through what he calls "philosophical machines": machines that attempt to grapple with the expansion of subjects such as neo-fascism, disinformation wars, and the exploitation of others and nature.
These machines were conceptualized using light and shadow, the warmth of wood and the rigidity of metal, as well as found footage and historical archival images. They take the form of kinetic installations, bio-art pieces, and audiovisual performances. Thus, each "philosophical machine", through this use of form and materiality, demonstrates an expanded perception of art and aims to amplify reality.
