BIO - ERIN GEE x ALEX M. LEE
Erin Gee is an artist who explores digital culture through metaphors of human voices in electronic
bodies. Articulating feminist-materialist strategies for creation with digital tools, she likens the microrhythms of emotion in the body to the rhythms of a vibrating vocal fold. Her work in biosignal-driven choral composition, virtual reality, and robotics has been shown recently at Cluster Festival (Winnipeg, 2019), Ars Electronica, Linz (2018), NRW Forum, Düsseldorf (2018), and Lydgalleriet, Bergen (2018).
Alex M. Lee is a digital artist who utilizes 3D animation, video game engines, and the
potential of simulation technology in order to visualize and abstract our understanding of time, space, and light.
Culling from concepts within science, science fiction, physics, and modernity, Lee has exhibited internationally in North America and Asia. Lee is Associate Professor in the Digital Arts & Sciences Department at Clarkson University, USA.
A twist on popular militainment shooter video games, Project H.E.A.R.T. invites viewers to summon their enthusiasm to engage holographic pop star Yowane Haku in combat therapy.
Emotional interactivity is facilitated through a device that collects data from the user, detecting spikes in skin conductance, increased heartbeat, and shifts in amplitude of the pulse signal.
This embodied evidence of enthusiasm stimulates the holographic pop star to sing to her team of soldiers, inspiring them to continue fighting their enemies and their own lack of confidence in times of global economic instability.
As the soldiers complain and continue killing, users are challenged to summon their positivity to activate Haku’s singing voice and boost their morale.
